We first visited the state of the Yucatan in September of 2009. My husband first researched the area via the internet for over a year before our first visit. He found so many great aspects of the Yucatan especially Merida and the area. I was a little hesitant as I have travelled to many other areas of Mexico in the past and my husband has never visited the country. He was describing Merida and its charm. The medical how great and accessible it was. The cost of living and how reasonable it was. And most importantly how safe it was there to raise a family as we at the time had a 9 month old. Right from that point on I just had to see it with my own eyes.
We planned a trip for one month and rented a beach front home in Chelem, a charming fishing village about 20 minutes from Merida. After spending a couple weeks there and visiting Merida many times we fell head over heels in love with it! We could not believe what the Yucatan had to offer. It is honestly different than any other area in Mexico I have ever been. There was not a time I did not feel safe from the moment we got off the plane until the time we left. It was just what we have been looking for! We met some great people on that trip in 2009 who now have become lifelong friends. That was when we met Doug and Teresa Willy from Mayan Living Real Estate who we now have gone in partners with. We are so proud to own a company with such caring and real people as them. So needless to say we had such a wonderful month there we did not want it to end or go back home. When we arrived back to Canada we had a new outlook on life. We wanted and needed to go back. It was then that we made the decision to take the plunge move our family and life down to the Yucatan. The best decision we have ever made :) Follow our posts of the adventure in our move and our new life here in Mexico!!
