Hi there, and welcome to our blog. Since it seems like everyone else is creating a blog we thought perhaps we should also get with the times and create one as well. We would like to share with you our adventures on how me we moved from small town Northern Alberta Canada to the beautiful state of the Yucatan in Mexico.

When we first visited the Yucatan we fell absolutely in love with every aspect of it from the culture, the food, the cost of living, the charming people and of course beautiful warm sunny days all year round. That is all it took to convince us to take the plunge for our big move. We are now proud to call Mexico our home.

We have created this blog for you to follow our journey and to understand the life here in the Yucatan. We are also co-owners of Mayan Living Real Estate, a very successful and well respected real estate company here in the Yucatan. Please feel free to stop by our website for more information this beautiful area. Also don’t forget to add our blog to your favourites or even better become a follower so you can keep up to date on all of our new posts. We are now on TWITTER as well. Just click on the link located on the right hand side and join our adventures on there as well.

Packed our bags and off we went!

We returned back to Canada for the winter of 2009 after a life changing trip to the Yucatan. We fell completely in love with the sound of the ocean, the warm breeze, the food, the charming people, and so many more aspects of the area in the Yucatan. Once we returned home we make the decision to move our life to Mexico for good. After doing some research we found a person that has travelled the route from the border in Brownsville Texas to the state of the Yucatan. Click Here to see the detailed map. So December 2009 we packed up our van and off we went on a 9-10 day road trip to our new home in Mexico. To be honest the drive was scenically beautiful, and completely hassle and stress free. We arrived mid January and now we start our new life in Mexico. Don’t forget to check out our WEBSITE for some great homes and great deals!

September 2009 - Our First Trip to the Yucatan

We first visited the state of the Yucatan in September of 2009. My husband first researched the area via the internet for over a year before our first visit. He found so many great aspects of the Yucatan especially Merida and the area. I was a little hesitant as I have travelled to many other areas of Mexico in the past and my husband has never visited the country.  He was describing Merida and its charm. The medical how great and accessible it was. The cost of living and how reasonable it was.  And most importantly how safe it was there to raise a family as we at the time had a 9 month old. Right from that point on I just had to see it with my own eyes.
We planned a trip for one month and rented a beach front home in Chelem, a charming fishing village about 20 minutes from Merida. After spending a couple weeks there and visiting Merida many times we fell head over heels in love with it!  We could not believe what the Yucatan had to offer. It is honestly different than any other area in Mexico I have ever been. There was not a time I did not feel safe from the moment we got off the plane until the time we left. It was just what we have been looking for! We met some great people on that trip in 2009 who now have become lifelong friends. That was when we met Doug and Teresa Willy from Mayan Living Real Estate who we now have gone in partners with. We are so proud to own a company with such caring and real people as them.  So needless to say we had such a wonderful month there we did not want it to end or go back home. When we arrived back to Canada we had a new outlook on life. We wanted and needed to go back. It was then that we made the decision to take the plunge move our family and life down to the Yucatan. The best decision we have ever made :) Follow our posts of the adventure in our move and our new life here in Mexico!!

Isn't this just gorgeous!
