Hi there, and welcome to our blog. Since it seems like everyone else is creating a blog we thought perhaps we should also get with the times and create one as well. We would like to share with you our adventures on how me we moved from small town Northern Alberta Canada to the beautiful state of the Yucatan in Mexico.

When we first visited the Yucatan we fell absolutely in love with every aspect of it from the culture, the food, the cost of living, the charming people and of course beautiful warm sunny days all year round. That is all it took to convince us to take the plunge for our big move. We are now proud to call Mexico our home.

We have created this blog for you to follow our journey and to understand the life here in the Yucatan. We are also co-owners of Mayan Living Real Estate, a very successful and well respected real estate company here in the Yucatan. Please feel free to stop by our website for more information this beautiful area. Also don’t forget to add our blog to your favourites or even better become a follower so you can keep up to date on all of our new posts. We are now on TWITTER as well. Just click on the link located on the right hand side and join our adventures on there as well.

TOP TEN REASONS TO LIVE IN THE YUCATAN

Chad enjoying the pool as the sun goes down

People ask us all the time ... why did we choose the Yucatan from the other areas. We came up with our “Top Ten Reasons To Live in the Yucatan” to share with you....
#10: Health Care Merida is home to some of the best doctors and medical facilities available and all at a very reasonable cost. The standards here are very high end and the care much cheaper than north of the border. You can visit a General Practitioner pretty well anytime, and even in his or her own home for about $5-$10 dollars a consultation.

#9: Amazing, Fresh, Inexpensive FoodThere are local markets all over the area with nothing but the freshest organic produce. It is quite amazing what you can purchase for a few dollars. Our regular run consists of 2 kilos each of tomatos, onions, limes and a handful of cilantro all for about $30 pesos, which works out to $2.50 :)
#8: Safe Environment The Yucatan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. From running on the beach, walking around centro in Merida, to family drives on the highways there has never been a time where we did not feel safe here.
#7: The Culture The Yucatan is home to Chichen Itza, one of the 7 wonders of the world as well as many other wonderful sites like the Mayan ruins, beautiful beaches, wildlife, cenotes and SO much more! Come and spend some time in Merida, the White City, where the old meets the new, and respect for tradition and modern urban development are united with originality.
#6: The Weather We have beautiful tropical weather year round and plenty of sunshine. The winters are wonderful here with average temperature in the high 70's and low 80's. It does get hot in the summers with temps rising to 100 degrees, but that’s why there are pools and air conditioning! Living in a tropical climate and being surrounded by beautiful landscapes are features of the Yucatan that can definitely boost your sense of well being. It sure did us!!
#5: The People  I can't say this enough! The people here are so kind hearted and generous to a fault. The local people will share their world with you. They love to show you around and welcome you into their hearts and homes. These are people that live an easier, simpler life style, much like the US in the 50's. Family and friends are the most important things in their lives, we are very blessed that we have found this piece of paradise and are able to call it our home!
#4: Expat Community With more and more people starting to find this hidden paradise in the Yucatan you will be making friends in no time. Who knows they maybe from the same city you are from. We have met many from ours! There are local Calgarians 3 doors down from us who are now our great friends :)
#3: Cost of Living From going to get a soda at the local store, going to the doctors, to building a home by moving to the Yucatan can cut your cost of living from 35% to 50%. My water bill is less than $5 a month with unlimited usage, my home taxes are $36 a year. Quite unbelievable actually!!
#2: Easy Access  Flights come in and out of Merida from Houston daily, you can be back on US soil in as little as 2 hours! When we were exploring where we wanted to settle down, one thing that was very important was to be able to get home quickly in case of a family emergency. You can also fly in and out of Cancun airport and fly direct into Canada without a stopover in the US. Cancun is only 4 hours away.
#1: Stress Free Living Absolutely the number 1 reason to move here. We all know that less stress means a longer and healthier life. You will.not find a more “stress free” environment than here in the beautiful, charming state of the Yucatan.

Don't delay, you can do it too. Come and see it for yourself. Let US find YOU your perfect Mexican home in this hidden Gem :)
HONESTY, INTEGRITY, RELIABILITY

Family Beach Walks

It is quite typical for us to head out for a family walk along the beach. There is always something new for us to see. Also it is a great way to educate our son about Mexico. There is nothing like feeling the warm water on our feet, seeing the birds dive for fish, and breathing in the clean fresh Gulf Coast air.
On our evening walks we meet more and more expats who have moved here from all over the world. We even have some fellow Calgarians who live 3 houses away! It is such a small world you just never know who you will meet here.
Need that winter “getaway” or have always wanted your own little piece of Mexican paradise? Don’t forget we have a wide range of properties from fixer uppers to move it ready homes. Just CLICK HERE for the Mayan Living website. We also will be posting most of our new listings on our blog so it will only be a click away for you to view all the beautiful properties we have to offer.

We enjoy every minute :)
